The STATUS is a self-contained electronic air cleaner for use in commercial and light industrial applications. The air cleaner is mounted in the room or area where the air is to be cleaned. A two-speed fan circulates air through a metal airborne particles such as dust, soot, pollen, tobacco and cooking smoke from the air circulated through it.

Advances in welding technologies have been accompanied with a new appreciation of the health hazards associated with common welding processes such as SMAW (stick), FCAW (Flux core) and GMAW (MIG). These hazards can present exposure concerns even when welding on common carbon steel. Recent research has identified problems with exposures to manganese, chromium, nickel and other potentially toxic metals in welding fume. OSHA has recently promulgated a new regulation focused on the carcinogen, hexavalent chromium (CrVI or Cr6+). These health hazards, along with the understandable reluctance on the part of welders to wearing a respirator under the welding hood, mean that better approaches to removing welding fumes from the welder’s breathing zone are required.
Industrial air cleaners provide a wide range of options both in terms of air cleaning technology and welding safety equipment. We offer three air cleaning technologies suitable for welding fume extraction. Electrostatic feature permanent collector cells which offer high filtration efficiency along with the advantages of eliminating ongoing filter replacement costs. Some applications are best served by conventional media filtration and we offer several options using this technology: inexpensive bag filters, extended service manipulated filters and, when required, HEPA filters. When long maintenance intervals at high fume loading are the driving factors, our reverse pulse cartridge systems are the answer in these high production applications. Ambient or background air cleaning refers to applying air cleaners to generally clean the entire air volume of a room or building. This approach is frequently utilized when it is not possible to link the filtration system to a specific process or to a specific location. Examples would include facilities such as large warehouses where it’s not possible to identify an individual source or in facilities where the contaminant generators are highly mobile such as portable welders.
The most important factors when selecting the proper ambient air cleaner are the cost per cfm of delivered airflow and the square footage of media. Some manufacturers advertise the “free air” number (sometimes without indicating this is the “free air” rating) as opposed to the delivered airflow. Also, just as important is the type of blower utilized – a forward curved blower can not retain airflow against a significant rise in static pressure. A backwards inclined blower wheel will be more resilient in airflow as the filters get dirty requiring less frequent filter replacements. Contaminated air is drawn by the motor/blower through a washable metal mesh pre-filter which traps large dust particles. The remaining particles, some as small as 0.01 microns, pass into a strong electrical field (ionizing section) where the particulate receives an electrical charge. The charged particles then pass into a collector plate section made up of a series of equally spaced parallel plates. Each alternate plate is charged with the same polarity as the particles, which repel, while the interleaving plates are grounded, which attract and collect the contaminants. One of the benefits to be excepted from use of the self contained electronics air cleaner is reduction in the amount of outdoor air brought into the building, Typically, the use of the outdoor air, at rates upto air changes per hour is recommended to replenish oxygen and no dilute and remove airborne contamination particularly smoke.
The ASHRAE standard 62-76, natural and mechanical gives recommended outdoor air quantities ventilation in terms of 100% out door air. These recommended outdoor quantities may be reduced to 35%-50% of the specified quantities may be reduced to 35-50% of the specified quantities air cleaners is provided. However the standard recommends that in no case shall the outdoor air quantity be less than 5 c.f.m. (0.2 m/min) per person. The standard 30 to 40 c.f.m.
